Darjeeling First Flush

First Flush

Spring flush, popularly known as the First Flush is famous for its fresh flavour. The tea in this period is plucked immediately after the long cold winter months and is bountiful with fresh flavour as the bushes are full of vigour. They are stronger in this period when compared to the summer and pre-winter.  The infusion has a greenish leaf appearance and the tea tastes fresh and strong.

Amber jewel encircled in mellow gold,
Tastes of fruit and honey,
Memory of a full warm body,
Leaving behind a heavenly feeling,

The “First Flush” is for the seasoned drinker. An acquired taste, “it draws parlance with wine”

The new flush arrives by the early March at the lower elevation however the higher elevation crop is delayed as it is still cold. The flushing at the highest elevation is almost delayed by 4-5 weeks when compared to the lowest elevation. The earliest crop from each section of the garden produces the best quality in the first flush. Generally we get two rounds of excellent tea from each section of the garden.

There is a lot of range and variety manufactured during the first flush. Not all the tea manufactured is of the same quality. This is mainly because of differences in elevation, quality of bushes and quality of leaves plucked from the bushes.  We mark our different quality as follows.

Gopaldhara Wonder and Rohini Exotic – World Famous “First Flush Clonal Teas”

Gopaldhara Wonder Tea is manufactured from the prime clonal sections of the garden at an average elevation of 6500 FT and the highest peak stretches right up to 7000 FT. It is made from young and tender single leaf and bud. The first flush wonder tea brews into a flowery mellow cup with rich overtones of fruit and honey. This is truly the “the champagne of all Teas”

Rohini Exotic is produced from the prime badgach sections of the garden. These sections are planted with the AV2 bushes. They are the flavoriest clones and produce prime teas. These teas have very good flavor with tastes of ripe fruit.

These teas are also produced from the prime sections of the garden from the earliest production beginning from the 1st Week of March up to 15th April depending on the elevation. They brew into light mellow cups with excellent first flush character.
